Nature

White-tailed eagles, or sea eagles, are Europe’s largest bird of prey, with a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres. The Ravenspoint Café offers a great viewpoint over Loch Erisort, where they often patrol the shoreline. Find out more in our Sea Eagle Exhibition.

Otters are quite common in the Hebrides, and spend much of their time searching the sea lochs for fish and crustaceans. Here’s a video clip of them frolicking down by the shore at Ravenspoint.

The Outer Hebrides are a stronghold for several of Scotland’s most iconic predators, including both Golden and white-tailed eagles. The trail takes you on a journey linking 11 locations across the Outer Hebrides.

Follow the trail

Local history

The museum, operated jointly by Ravenspoint and Pairc Historical Society, provides a fascinating insight into Hebridean life in times gone by.

Angus Macleod Archive

Explore the archive, which contains a vast selection of material about life on the Isle of Lewis, left by the late Angus ‘Ease’ Macleod MBE (1916-2002) of South Lochs.

Patagonia Exhibition

Find out why people from South Lochs travelled literally to the other end of the world to find employment on the sheep ranches of Patagonia and start new lives in one of the most inhospitable environments on earth.

Gaelic courses

Our Gaelic courses here at Ravenspoint are rooted in the language and culture of the local community.  As well inviting you into their homes, local people want to share their language, history and culture with you.

Alongside these informal learning opportunities, we offer structured language-learning sessions using the Ulpan programme. A specimen programme can be seen below and, numbers permitting, we expect to offer two parallel sets of ULPAN lessons on each course, the levels depending on the preferences of students.
