The Ravenspoint Centre at Kershader is the gateway to South
Lochs, the hidden jewel of Lewis: an area with a strong Gaelic culture,
dramatic history, beautiful scenery, coastal villages, and rare wildlife.
Ravenspoint, a former school building, is owned by
Co-Chomunn na Pairc, one of the original community co-operatives established in
the 1970s. Today we run a well-stocked community shop, small tea-room for light
meals and refreshments, 14-bed hostel, and visitor attractions such as the
remarkable Angus Macleod Archive and local history museum.
The Centre is run by and on behalf of the community to
provide vital local services to a scattered population of about 400 people. Our
aims are to help reverse over a century of population decline through providing
attractive facilities for local people and visitors alike.
Come and visit us, learn about the history and environment
of South Lochs, and then go on to explore a largely unknown area.
You can be assured of a warm welcome.
