FUTURE PLANS
The Co-Chomunn has a number of plans to improve the
facilities at Ravenspoint:
1. NEW PORCH
We have planning permission and building warrant approval to
build a new porch on the front of Ravenspoint. This will cut down on draughts
and also give more space for notices and displays. It is hoped to do most of
the work using volunteers over the winter months of 2009
.
2. RENEWABLE ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS
We have plans to build two small wind turbines on land
leased from Croft 1 Kershader, together with solar panels and better insulation
at Ravenspoint. This will help to reduce energy bills. We are looking to
Community Energy Scotland and the Comhairle for most of the funding. Shetland
Wind Power Ltd have been appointed as our contractor for the wind turbines part
of the project, which it is hoped will be in place by Summer 2010.
3. EXTENSION TO RAVENSPOINT
It is planned to extend one wing of the single-storey
building at the rear of Ravenspoint towards Loch Erisort to provide a relocated
tea-room (with views over the loch) and new kitchen and toilet facilities. The
development will also create more exhibition space at Ravenspoint. Progress
depends on planning permission, building warrant approval, and funding. We
intend to apply to the Scottish Rural Development Programme for the major part
of the funding. A follow-up application to LEADER will be considered for a
project to equip and help run the new facilities
.
